I know it's early, but I'm a planner and the window shopping has begun.....

Strollers:
I've been doing some research and these Peg Peerego's sound popular. We looked at them this weekend, but what am I really looking for? Weight? Height?

Do I want a carrier that goes from car seat to stroller? I read one place that babies shouldn't be in that thing for too long? Is it better to get a seperate car seat and then lay the baby flat in the stroller?

Car Seats:
I figure here, I am just looking for the safest? We ordered a Baby Consumer Reports to figure out what the safest is. Any complaints/suggestions on yours? Do I get two--one for each car? Or do I just get one and whoever has the baby uses that car? I imagine that it will mostly be me alone or us together, so I guess it's really not that big of a deal.

Cribs/Bassinets/Moses Baskets:
In the beginning, the baby will be sleeping in something other than the crib? I'll want something to put in our room, probably, right? What's better--bassinet or those moses baskets w/ a stand?

There's so much to think about!!!!!

Since we just bought the new house and I'm going to want to be filling it with new furniture, the trip needs to be cheap! I found a 7-day all-inclusive in Playa del Carmen, which is where we went on our honeymoon. We stayed at Aventura Spa for the HM, and this place is right down the road. I've never heard of it, and now I can't even remember the name, but it seems fine. I could really care less. As long as it's clean, all-inclusive, and in the sun...I'm happy :)

I just looked.....it's called Sunscape Puerto Aventuras. Anyone know anything about Sunscape?

Aimee--it's the couple of the wedding I met you at :) They were hoping the baby would wait because Lori was due the week of the hurricane and they were worried sick that she'd go into labor during that!

One of good friends from college, whom I had talked to in almost a year, called and said he moved from Pensacola, FL to somewhere right outside of Memphis, TN. I had no desire to go visit in Pensacola (only b/c I've been there before) but I'd love to go to Memphis, so I'm ready for a trip :)

Thinking of going to North Carolina for furniture shopping. My mom says that my uncle goes to raleigh, but I swear that it was High Point that had the great shopping. Hmm.....

The IL's left for France this morning. They'll be gone for 3.5 weeks and we didn't tell them about buying/selling houses. Ha. We're going to have to stay with them for at least a week (between moves) so when they get home from vacation, they'll have quite a surprise. Especially since we'll have already closed on our house and be staying with them!

We're having thanksgiving at our new house. Yikes. My parents are in the process of building a new home and are living in an apartment (which is a disaster). Thanksgiving in the apartment didn't sound too appealing to anyone, so they're all coming down here. Should be fun but adds a little extra stress to moving in the new house.

I've gotta figure out if I can still vote in Suffolk since I'll be between houses. I guess that as long as my liscense says I live there, then I'm fine. I should find that out soon, though.

School's kicking my ass. I took two exams last week while I was sick and I know I bombed 'em. Just hope I can make up for it later. Can't worry too much about what's already done, I guess. I'll get both exams back tomorrow, I suppose.

Enough rambling..........

There's a model in Williamsburg that we could check out, though, and that would make me feel much better.

I've got a list of questions for the sales people tonight and hoping I can get all the answers.

Last night, I made the Mixed Berry Soup for tonight's dinner. The house smelt heavenly and I cannot wait to try it tonight. Wanted to post the recipe here....it's super easy and should make a light, simple dessert (maybe even elegant?!)

Mixed Berry Soup with Gelato

Ingredients
2 cups dry red wine
1 cup water
2/3 cup sugar
2 whole star anise
2 cinnamon sticks
1 (12-ounce) basket fresh strawberries, hulled, sliced
1 (6-ounce) basket fresh raspberries
1 (4.4-ounce) basket fresh blueberries
1 pint vanilla bean gelato or ice cream

Instructions
Combine the wine, water, sugar, star anise, and cinnamon sticks in a
heavy large saucepan. Add all but 1/2 cup of each of the berries. Bring the liquids to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer gently until the fruit is very tender, about 10 minutes. Cool slightly. Discard the star anise and cinnamon sticks. Transfer the berry mixture to a blender and puree until smooth. Strain the soup through a fine mesh strainer and into a medium bowl. Cover and refrigerate until very cold, stirring occasionally, at least 8 hours and up
to 1 day ahead.

Cut the reserved strawberries into small pieces. Place a small scoop of vanilla bean gelato or ice cream in the center of 8 decorative dessert glasses or soup bowls. Divide the mixed berry soup among the glasses, being careful to pour around the gelato. Sprinkle the reserved berries over the soup and serve immediately.

Four of my girlfriends are driving down here next friday--from Richmond and Roanoke. We're going to have dinner at my house and spend the night there that night.

Saturday, we'll hit the beach (weather permitting) and then we are staying at the Waterside Marriott saturday night and will go out downtown for the actual bachelorette party.

This is what I'm thinking of for a menu for Friday night:

Bruschetta
Marinated olives

Homemade Caesar salad
Penne with tomato basil sauce
Chicken Valentino (stuffed w/ roasted red peppers and mozzarella)
Breads w/ dipping oil

Mixed Berry Soup w/ Gelato

Any suggestions?!

It's Friday!!

The visitors are gone. They left yesterday afternoon and were gone by the time I got home from work and school.

Wednesday night was another frustrating one with the wife, but it's over now :) I got to keep the boys all night by myself, so that made it better.

Steve and I rode into work together, which is really a bad idea. I like my morning's quiet and he's just yapping away! After work, I'm going by Total Wine to pick up 15 mini champagne's for next weekend's shower, then I'll pick him up. We're gonna go to happy hour with some friends and then get something to eat. Nothing very exciting...just glad it's friday.

Why am I so bad about updating this journal?!

We've had visitors since last friday, so that's one huge reason. Not just any visitors, but Steve's cousins, his wife, and their two little boys. Alex is 2 1/2 and Max is 7 months. The kids are adorable and super sweet but the wife is another story. She's a fruitcake if I ever met one. Very demanding, very spoiled, and very unappreciative.

Saturday night, I had a cookout for the family so Steve's parents could spend some time with them. I had to run to the store to pick up something and Christa says, "So what are you having for dessert?" Me: "I'm thinking about just making some choc. chip cookies..I've got lots of food for dinner." Her: "Hmmm..I dont think that's gonna do it for me. How about a german chocolate cake? Can you pick one up at the store?" (note: i didn't)

Sunday, Steve decides he just has to get out of the house and he says that he's going to the driving range for about an hour. She says, "Oh, good...can you go by the grocery store and pick up a few things?" Then proceeds to hand him a list of groceries to include specific formula and baby food. Poor Steve. He had no clue and came back with no formula, to which she replies, "Did you even ask anyone because I know they have the formula."

Ugh. Get off your butt and get it yourself.

I'm having so much fun with the kids, though, so I guess I have to put up with her to have them around! They are leaving either tomorrow or friday so it's only one or two more nights.

I am anxiously awaiting the weekend, though. Hoping to hit the beach and I may have a cookout for some friends on saturday. Depends on the weather, I guess. I have to do favors for a bridal shower the following weekend, buy two shower gifts for the following weekend, and study for my final exam, which is next thursday. Hope there's enough time in one weekend.

Is it Friday?!

I've got an exam tomorrow, so I came home straight from work to study. I'll be glad when this summer session is over. I'll be glad when school is over....this MBA better do me some good!

The week's been pretty good. Work's alright but a little slow, for some reason. I had lunch yesterday with a girlfriend from college, Cybil. We've been saying we're going to get together for awhile now, but just never did it. Her and her boyfriend live in the area now, so we should definetly hang out. We need more couple friends!

Tomorrow is the 311 concert. It's supposed to rain, though, so I dont know how much fun it'll be. I like 311 and all, but they're not my favorite. I just like the 'socializing' part!

I have off friday and plan to spend the entire day shopping, which I haven't done in quite awhile, so I'm very excited. Steve's cousin's are coming in friday night so it'll be a busy weekend.

Some crazy stuff has been going on around here (beside John Kerry visiting) ;)

"Suffolk, VA couple charged after 3-year-old filmed playing with gun."
This was in the news several days ago and was even on the Today Show yesterday. A lady filmed her neighbors who were shooting targets and left their 3-year old son alone with rifles and handguns, which he picked up to play with. Can you even imagine? The poor little boy was just waving the gun around. Anyway, they were arrested.

Last night at school, a dead body was found in the men's bathroom (at ODU). I heard today that someone had overdosed, but i never saw anything in the news. It was being kept pretty hush hush. Very creepy, though.

The 'panty burglar' is breaking into homes and stealing women's underwear.

What in the hell is going on around here??
